Toyota Hilux Generations by Market: Vigo, Revo and Which One You Have
The seventh-generation Hilux (our N70) went on sale in Thailand as the Hilux Vigo in August 2004 and was facelifted in 2011 as the Vigo Champ. The eighth generation (our N80, AN120/AN130), the Thai Hilux Revo, followed in May 2015 and got new front ends in 2017, 2020 and 2024 before a ninth generation was revealed in November 2025. The US gets the Tacoma instead. Every facelift changed the grille and front bumper, so match a bar to the generation and facelift, not the model year.
What are the Hilux generations and codes?
Toyota counts the 2004 truck as the seventh-generation Hilux and the 2015 truck as the eighth, and the seventh was the first Hilux not built in Japan (Toyota, Hilux history). It came from Toyota’s IMV project: on 25 August 2004 Toyota said it had started selling the Hilux Vigo in Thailand, the first of five IMV models for more than 140 countries, with production starting in Thailand, Indonesia, Argentina and South Africa (Toyota, 2004).
Toyota unveiled the eighth generation in Bangkok on 21 May 2015, which started its sales in Thailand, and the launch release pictures Single Cab, Extra Cab and Double Cab bodies (Toyota, 2015). A leaked Thai brochure names it the Hilux Revo (paultan.org, 2015). Toyota revealed the ninth generation in Bangkok on 10 November 2025 (Toyota, 2025).
Our catalog calls the two IMV trucks N70 and N80. Suspension makers list the seventh generation as AN10/AN20/AN30 (HIRO Performance, Wikipedia) and the eighth as AN120/AN130 (Öhlins, Wikipedia). The Hilux Champ is a different vehicle: a two-door, rear-drive budget truck launched in Thailand in November 2023 that did not replace the Hilux (paultan.org, 2023).
Which years apply in each market?
Dates are first sale or announcement in the linked source. “Not verified” means we could not confirm it from a reliable source.

Japan stopped selling the Hilux in 2004 and brought it back in 2017 as an import from Thailand (Toyota, 2017), a gap that covers the whole N70 run. In Thailand the 2020 facelift kept the Hilux Revo name (paultan.org, 2020).
Why is there no Hilux in the US?
Toyota introduced the Tacoma, its compact pickup for the US, in February 1995, with every truck built in Fremont, California (Toyota, 1995). CarBuzz names the 25 percent US “chicken tax” on imported light trucks as the main reason the Hilux is not sold there, and adds that US buyers prefer the softer Tacoma (CarBuzz). A US Toyota midsize pickup is a Tacoma, a different truck, so do not design Tacoma parts from a Hilux scan or the reverse.
Which body panels changed at each facelift?
These are the changes reported for each update. A panel missing from the list was not reported as changed, which does not prove it is the same.
| Update | Front | Rear and frame |
|---|---|---|
| N70, 2009 model (Australia) | Trapezoidal grille, new front bumper (Drive) | None reported |
| N70 facelift, 2011 | New sheet metal ahead of the A-pillar: hood, grille, headlamps, front bumper; new fenders on Australian SR5 (Toyota Australia, 2011); Thai hood with a larger air scoop (Thairath) | New tail lamps (paultan.org, 2011) |
| N70 to N80, 2015 | All new, a complete redesign (Toyota, 2015) | Frame side rails and crossmembers up to 30 mm (1.2 in) thicker; rear leaf springs 100 mm (3.9 in) longer and mounted wider (Toyota Australia, 2015) |
| N80, 2017 (Thailand) | Large hexagonal grille, bumper with upturned center intake and new fog lamp surrounds, on 4x4 and Prerunner only (paultan.org, 2017) | Rest of the exterior unchanged (paultan.org, 2017) |
| N80 Rogue and Rugged X, 2018 (Australia) | Rogue: redesigned front end; Rugged X: factory steel front bar (Toyota Australia, 2018) | Rogue: redesigned rear; Rugged X: steel rear bar with integrated tow hitch (Toyota Australia, 2018) |
| N80 facelift, 2020 | Larger, more upright trapezoid grille, upper hood molding, headlamps moved outboard to meet new bumper corners (Unsealed 4X4) | New rear lamps on some grades: LED rear clusters offered in Europe (Toyota Europe, 2020), new taillights on SR5 pick-ups in Australia (Toyota Australia, 2020) |
| N80 update, 2024 (Australia) | New grille and front bumper in an interlocking design (Toyota Australia, 2024) | Tailgate damper added on pick-up variants (Toyota Australia, 2024) |
| Ninth generation, 2025 | Completely redesigned front and rear; two front frame crossmembers revised and new front rail extensions (Toyota Australia, Nov 2025) | Redesigned (Toyota Australia, Nov 2025) |
The N80 frame is a different part. Toyota Australia says the rear suspension attachment moved 100 mm (3.9 in) forward and 25 mm (1.0 in) lower (Toyota Australia, 2015), and Toyota Europe says the maximum deck width grew from 1,544 to 1,645 mm (60.8 to 64.8 in) (Toyota Europe, 2016). Do not assume anything bolted to an N70 frame or bed fits an N80.
The 2020 restyle made Toyota Australia redesign its own bull bars, nudge bars, tow hitches and hard tonneau cover to suit the new exterior (Unsealed 4X4). If Toyota’s own bars did not carry over, yours will not either without checking.
Which Hilux do I have?
- Check the market. A new Toyota midsize pickup sold in the US is a Tacoma.
- Read the build date on the vehicle label, not the advertised model year, and note where the truck was first sold.
- Look at the front. A Vigo Champ has a hood with a larger air scoop and twin halogen multi-reflector headlamps (Thairath). A 2020 facelift has the large upright trapezoid grille with smaller headlamps pushed outboard (Unsealed 4X4, Toyota Australia, 2020). An Australian 2024 update pairs an octagonal grille with a trapezoidal lower bumper section (Toyota Australia, 2024). The ninth generation has slim-line headlights (Toyota Australia, Nov 2025).
- Check the cab and body width. Thailand sold the Vigo Champ as a standard cab, Extra Cab, Smart Cab and Double Cab (Thairath). The N80 Extra Cab has rear-hinged access doors, and Australia sold narrow-body and wide-body versions (Toyota Australia, 2015). There the 2020 restyle was for the wide-body 4x2 Hi-Rider and the 4x4 Extra and Double Cabs (Toyota Australia, 2020).

How to pick:
- 2020 facelift N80, including the Thai Hilux Revo: the N80 files are this truck. The complete scan has the hood closed and no cabin interior or engine bay; the front scan has the bumper on and the hood open. For bar mounts, use the engine compartment scan: it was taken with the bumper and crash carrier removed, so it shows the radiator support and front frame section.
- Australian 2024 update: the grille and front bumper changed, and pick-ups gained a tailgate damper (Toyota Australia, 2024). Check the bumper shape and mounting points on your truck before using our front scan. Our tailgate scan shows the hinges and support cables of a 2020 truck, so check the hinge and damper mounts on yours before using it.
- 2015 to 2020 N80: our front scan is not your front end, and Toyota reported new rear lamps on some 2020 grades (Toyota Europe, 2020, Toyota Australia, 2020), so check the lamps, rear bumper and tow hitch mounts before using the rear or tailgate scans. A 2015 to 2020 front scan without the bumper is coming.
- Single Cab or Extra Cab: our N80 scans are Double Cabs, and Toyota Europe gives load bed lengths from 1,525 to 2,315 mm (60.0 to 91.1 in) depending on cab (Toyota Europe, 2020), so do not take bed or rear frame sizes from them.
- Body width: Toyota quoted 1,855 mm (73.0 in) for the 2015 Double Cab (Toyota, 2015) and 1,900 mm (74.8 in) for the 2020 European Double Cab Invincible, a grade with front and rear over-fenders (Toyota Europe, 2020). Our complete scan measures 1,904 mm (74.9 in) without mirrors, so measure across your wheel arches before using its fenders as a reference.
- 2011 to 2015 N70 Vigo Champ: the Vigo Champ scan includes the cabin interior and underbody; with the hood closed, the engine bay is only partly captured through the grille. Australian SR5 trucks got their own fenders in 2011 (Toyota Australia, 2011), so compare the wheel arches.
- 2004 to 2011 N70 Vigo: the hood, grille, headlamps and front bumper changed in 2011 (Toyota Australia, 2011), so the Vigo Champ scan does not show your front end; check the doors, cab and bed before using it. A pre-facelift Vigo bundle with a separate chassis file is coming.
- Ninth generation: we have no file, and Toyota revised its front frame crossmembers and added front rail extensions (Toyota Australia, Nov 2025), so the N80 files are no reference for its front frame.
- US Tacoma: use the Tacoma 3rd gen bundle (2016-2023, OBJ and STL, $95), which includes a bare frame.
- Older Hilux: a 1997 Hilux front, scanned without bumper, grille or lights, is coming.
If you are unsure which truck a file came from, message the shop on Etsy before you buy.
What should I check before designing a bumper or bar?
Compare two or three measured points on your truck (frame rail ends, bumper bolt holes, bed rail length) with the scan before cutting metal. Toyota Australia developed airbag-compatible bull bars alongside the N80 (Toyota Australia, 2015); a bar you design has to work with the same airbag system, so check your local road rules and any certification your country requires. The scan workflow is in how to use 3D scans in CAD, and every file we sell is listed under vehicles.
