Nissan Navara D40 and D23 (NP300) Years by Market, and the Frontier
The D40 Navara reached Australia in November 2005; the D23, sold as the NP300 Navara, was launched in Thailand in June 2014 and reached Australia in May 2015. The 2017 and 2018 Australian updates changed the suspension, not the front; the November 2020 facelift brought a new grille, headlamps, bonnet and bumper. The US Frontier is a different truck.

What did the 2021 facelift change?
The facelift replaced the V-shaped grille with an “interlock” grille carrying NAVARA lettering across its top edge, and brought new headlamps (with C-shaped LED lamps on upper grades), a higher bonnet, a reworked front bumper and new LED tail lights; the tub line was raised (GoAuto).
So a bumper or bull bar drawn for a 2015-2020 D23 does not carry over to a 2021-on truck without checking the bonnet line, headlamps and bumper mounts. The Series 2 and Series III updates did not change the front.
Is the US Frontier the same truck?
No. The US kept the older D40-based Frontier until 2021. The 2022 Frontier is new, but Nissan says it builds on the earlier truck’s chassis and frame, not on the D23 (Nissan, 2021). In Mexico the D23 was sold as the NP300 Frontier.
Which Navara do I have?
- Check the market. A Nissan midsize pickup sold new in the US is a Frontier, not a D23.
- Read the build date on the vehicle label, not the advertised model year.
- Look at the grille. A V-shaped chrome grille with boomerang LED daytime lamps is a 2015-2020 D23; a grille with NAVARA written along its top edge is a 2021-on facelift.

A front-end scan of a 2015-2020 D23 Navara, with the front bumper and the bonnet as separate bodies, is being prepared for our Etsy shop. If you need it, or are unsure which truck a file fits, message the shop on Etsy.
What should I check before designing a bumper or bar?
Compare two or three measured points on your truck (frame rail ends, bumper bolt holes, headlamp corners) with the scan before cutting metal, and check your local rules for bull bars on airbag-equipped vehicles. The scan workflow is in how to use 3D scans in CAD and the bumper steps in designing a DIY bumper from a 3D scan.
