100 Series (1998-2007), incl. 105 Series

Codes: J100, UZJ100 (4.7 V8), HDJ100 (1HD-FTE turbo diesel), FZJ105 (4.5 six, solid front axle), HZJ105 (1HZ diesel, solid front axle). Also called: Lexus LX 470, Land Cruiser Amazon (UK), Land Cruiser Cygnus (Japan top grade).

How to tell it apart: Big, smooth-sided wagon that replaced the 80; the 2005-2007 facelift has twin-pocket headlights and LED tail-lamps, and 105 models keep a solid front axle under the same body.

  • Series II (2002) (Japan Aug 2002 5-speed auto (Toyota global); AU 1 Oct 2002): 5-speed auto replaced 4-speed; AU range rationalised, Sahara returned. Exterior changes not listed by GoAuto.
  • 2005 facelift (AU Oct 2005): Revised grille, 'twin pocket' halogen headlamps, LED tail-lamps and stop lamp, 17-inch alloys on V8 and turbo diesel.

  • Australia: GoAuto: 80 Series replacement released Mar 1998; 200 Series arrived Nov 2007. Early AU range mixed IFS 100 (V8 GXV) with solid-axle 105 (FZJ105/HZJ105); Series II Oct 2002 made IFS standard except Standard van and GXL diesel.
  • United States: Toyota USA: introduced for 1998; 200 Series introduced 2008. V8 only in the US (Wikipedia).
  • Europe and the UK: Wikipedia: 1HD-FTE available from launch in Europe; UK name Land Cruiser Amazon.
  • South Africa: Wikipedia says the 105 was sold in Africa; no dates.

Not confirmed: UK/Europe launch month and end date.; South Africa and Thailand dates.; Whether a separate 2002 exterior facelift existed in AU (GoAuto lists only mechanical/spec changes)..
