What a tray or canopy design needs from a file
A canopy sits on the tub, so it is designed around the bed: the inner length and width of the tub, the height of the bed rails, the tailgate opening and the cab back it has to clear. A tray replaces the tub, so it is designed around the frame: the outer width of the frame rails, where the tray mounts sit on them, and the wheel arches and the cab back the tray body has to clear. A file that holds the bed and the underbody serves both.
