Ford Ranger Generations by Market: Same Year, Different Truck
A model year alone does not tell you which Ford Ranger you have. The global T6 (PX, PX MkII, PX MkIII) was built from 2011, the US sold its own T6-based Ranger for the 2019 to 2023 model years, and the Next-Gen (P703 / T6.2) reached Thailand and Australia in 2022, replaced the T6 in the UK from autumn 2022 and came to the US only as a 2024 model. Identify the generation and the market first, then pick the scan, STEP model or plan for that truck.
A “2022 Ford Ranger” can be three different trucks: the T6-based Ranger sold in the US, a late T6 PX MkIII in Europe or Australia, or the Next-Gen (P703 / T6.2) that replaced it in those markets during 2022. Match a scan, plan or bumper to a truck by generation code and market, not by model year.
What are the Ford Ranger generations and codes?
The current family starts with the T6 Ranger, first shown at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney in October 2010 and in production from mid-2011 (Wikipedia: Ford Ranger (T6)). Its development code was P375, and in Australia it carried the model code PX, with two facelifts known as PX MkII and PX MkIII (PX2 and PX3 in our file names). 4X4 Australia’s buyers’ guide puts the PX on sale in Australia in late 2011, the PX MkII in 2015 with a bolder front end and redesigned interior, and the PX MkIII in 2018 as the MY19 model (4X4 Australia buyers’ guide).
- PX MkII (PX2): the facelifted Ranger was due in Australia in September 2015 (CarsGuide).
- PX MkIII (PX3): the model year 2019 update, reviewed in Australia in October 2018, added the 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel from the Raptor and offered autonomous emergency braking in an optional Tech Pack (Practical Motoring).
The next generation was developed as Project P703. Ford kept it in the T6 family and called the platform T6.2 rather than T7, and chief engineer Ian Foston told CarsGuide that only a handful of parts are identical to the previous truck (CarsGuide). CarExpert reported a wheelbase 50 mm (2.0 in) longer and a track 50 mm (2.0 in) wider than the previous Ranger (CarExpert). Treat PX-generation brackets and bumpers as incompatible with a Next-Gen truck unless fitment has been checked.

Australia and Thailand
Thailand’s AutoAlliance plant in Rayong began building the T6 in September 2011, with Thai sales planned for November 2011; Ford named the Thai, South African and Argentine plants as its three export hubs for a Ranger sold in 180 markets (Top Gear Philippines). For the Next-Gen, Ford Thailand Manufacturing announced on 11 May 2022 that it was ready to deliver the first trucks in Thailand and export to more than 100 markets (MarkLines). Ford moved Australian arrivals to July 2022 after COVID-19 lockdowns in China disrupted parts supply (CarExpert).
Model-year labels blur even inside one market. CarExpert called that truck the “2022 Ford Ranger”, while 4X4 Australia’s July 2022 update said the new “2023 Ford Ranger” was on sale (4X4 Australia). Go by the build date, not the badge year.
Europe, the UK and South Africa
The RAC dates the UK T6 from early 2012, with a facelift in 2016 and the final update, including the 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel, in mid-2019 (RAC 2012-2016, RAC 2019-2022). The RAC credits the build quality of UK trucks to Ford’s South African factory and says the T6 was replaced by the all-new design in autumn 2022. Auto Express expected regular Next-Gen trucks with UK customers in the first quarter of 2023 (Auto Express, 2022).
Ford’s Silverton plant in Pretoria built about 732,000 T6 Rangers from 2011 to 2021 (Engineering News). Next-Gen production there was reported under way in November 2022, joining two Thai plants, with exports to more than 100 markets including the UK and Europe (Professional Pickup).
Where does the US Ranger fit?
Ford had not sold a Ranger in the US since the 2011 model year when it announced the new midsize truck in January 2018 (The Truth About Cars). Production of the 2019 model at Michigan Assembly Plant was planned for late 2018 (Automotive Fleet). Cars.com expected it at dealers in early 2019, said it looks only slightly different from the global Ranger and named the differences: grille, headlights, taillights and hood, plus steel bumpers (Cars.com).
In May 2023 Ford announced the all-new 2024 Ranger, assembled at Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, and called the 2023 truck “the previous generation”. The US truck uses a 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine or an optional 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 (Ford), while the regular Next-Gen launched in Australia with diesel engines only (CarExpert). So a 2023 Ranger in the US is the T6-based truck, while a new Ranger sold in Thailand or Australia in 2023 was a Next-Gen.
Where does the Ranger Raptor fit?
The first Ranger Raptor was revealed in Bangkok on 7 February 2018 with a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel (157 kW, 500 Nm). It was not just a trim level: CarsGuide reported a 1,710 mm (67.3 in) track front and rear, coil springs and a Watt’s link replacing the rear leaf springs, and a body 5,398 mm (212.5 in) long and 2,180 mm (85.8 in) wide (CarsGuide). It was due in Australian showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2018 (CarsGuide) and UK deliveries were due to start in summer 2019 (Auto Express, 2019). US buyers wanting a Raptor pickup had to go full-size with the F-150 Raptor (New Atlas).
The second Raptor belongs to the P703 program. It went on sale in Thailand in August 2022 with exports to 40 more countries (MarkLines), and Ford Australia expected shipping to start in the week of 19 September 2022 with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo gasoline V6 (292 kW, 583 Nm) (CarExpert). North America got its first Ranger Raptor as a 2024 model, also built in Michigan (Ford).

How to pick:
- PX or PX MkII truck (in Australia, 2011 until the PX MkIII arrived in late 2018): a PX / PX2 full vehicle scan is coming to the PX / PX2 page.
- US 2019 to 2023 Ranger: a full vehicle scan of a US 2019 Ranger SuperCrew Lariat 2.3L is coming to the PX3 page.
- Global PX MkIII: the coming PX3 scan is the same generation, but it is the US truck: the grille, lights, hood and bumpers differ, so measure those areas and the mounting points on your own truck.
- First-generation Raptor: use the Raptor PX3 rear scan. It covers the bed with the plastic liner, the tailgate open, rear bumper, rear wheel arches with fender flares, both rear wheels and the back of the cab. Because of the wider track and different rear suspension, do not design Raptor rear parts from a standard Ranger scan, or the reverse.
- Next-Gen (P703) in any market, including US trucks from the 2024 model year: the Next Gen files. Engines differ by market (gasoline EcoBoost in the US, diesel in Australia), so check clearances around the engine and chassis on your own vehicle.
- Next-Gen Raptor: we do not list a file for it. Do not assume the standard Next Gen files fit.
If you are unsure which truck a file came from, message the shop on Etsy before you buy.
What should I check before designing a bumper or rack?
Read the build date on the vehicle label rather than the advertised model year, and note the market the truck was sold in. Then compare two or three measured points on your truck (frame rail ends, bumper mounting holes, bed rail length) with the file before cutting metal.
A front bumper sits in the crash load path and near airbag and emergency-braking sensors, so check your local road rules and any certification your country requires before fitting one.
More vehicle guides are in all guides, and every file we sell is listed under vehicles.
