Toyota Tacoma and Tundra Generations by Model Year

In the US the second-generation Tacoma covered the 2005 to 2015 model years, the third 2016 to 2023 with a 2020 refresh, and the fourth starts with the 2024 model year. The second-generation Tundra covered 2007 to 2021 with a new front end for 2014, and the third generation started with the 2022 model year. Match the model year range, not only the generation.

What does the front change mean for a bumper?

A bumper or bar has to follow the grille, headlamps and the bumper mounts behind them. The Tundra’s 2014 redesign changed the grille, headlamps, hood height and bumpers (FleetOwner), so a 2007 to 2013 Tundra is a different front from a 2014 to 2021 truck. The Tacoma’s 2020 refresh was milder: mostly the grille and lamps (Carscoops); check the grille and fog lamp openings against your truck.

Which Tacoma or Tundra do I have?

  1. Read the model year on the vehicle label or registration, then find it in the tables above.
  2. Check the cab and bed. Both trucks were sold with more than one cab and bed length, and bed and rear frame sizes differ between them.
  3. Look at the front. On a 2014 to 2021 Tundra the TUNDRA name is stamped into the tailgate (FleetOwner).

How to pick:

  • 2016 to 2023 Tacoma: the bundle is this truck. The bare frame file shows every crossmember and mount, for bumpers, sliders and tray conversions. On a 2020 to 2023 truck, compare the grille and fog lamp openings before using the front.
  • 2014 to 2021 Tundra: the CrewMax scan is this front end, with the cabin and underbody. For a Double Cab or Regular Cab, do not take cab or bed lengths from it.
  • 2007 to 2013 Tundra, 2022-on Tundra, 2005 to 2015 or 2024-on Tacoma: the front ends differ; our files are a reference only for parts you can check on your truck.

What should I check before designing a bumper or bar?
